Flanagan is a patent attorney with corporate and government experience, as well as, a former patent examiner with the PTO. He holds MBA and physics degrees. This video provides an interesting way to become familiar with the basic concepts and procedures concerning intellectual property. It is quite useful as a presentation for all employees who are in any way involved in getting a product (or other project) safely from the idea stage to the marketplace. The emphasis is on understanding, developing, and implementing a very comprehensive intellectual property protection plan. In addition to covering patents, copyrights, and trademarks the video clearly explains that aspects such as data, log books, business plans, marketing plans, customer lists, etc. are also intellectual properties that require proper protection. The video outlines procedures to follow at each stage of a product's evolution: pre-design; design, development, and commercialization. A fictional company, product, and protection plan are used to clarify the points presented. The audio cassette is a copy of the soundtrack used on the video. Therefore, it contains all the same essential information as the video. The graphic and text illustrations in the video are interesting and helpful for clarification -- but are not essential. The audio cassette version is also a good educational resource. Flanagan was the executive producer for this video. It is professionally produced and narrated utilizing many graphic illustrations and occasional background music. A booklet summarizing key points and guidelines is also included. ~
